The organizers of the Carnival of Puebla, a celebration of Latin American culture in the North American city of Philadelphia, was decided to cancel this year in front of the current concerns today about the government''s migration policies.
Dedicated to recalling the battle in which Mexican troops defeated French invaders on May 5, 1862, the initiative usually brings together about 15,000 people by the end of April or the early of the following month for a parade through the south of the city, Located in the state of Pennsylvania.

Edgar Ramirez, one of the promoters of the event, told NBC that reports of more arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) forced them to make the sad but responsible decision , to suspend it.

Ramirez said the entire Mexican-American community, both legal and undocumented, viewed with dismay reports of large-scale detentions and arrests by ICE agents following President Donald Trump's instructions to increase deportations.

The agency reported a few days ago that 248 people in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia are in federal custody pending their return home as a result of two-week operations.

The group of six organizers decided to cancel the carnival unanimously, everyone is offended by the actions of ICE, they were not comfortable with the event, explained Ramirez.

He said fears that federal immigration officials would address the well-known party would have thrown a dark cloud over one of the most colorful and joyful dates in the Philadelphia Latin American calendar.
