Matanzas Adjusts Details for Book Fair

A cultural gala will open the International Book Fair (FIL-2018) and details are adjusted today so the important cultural event be in accordance with the condition of the Athens of Cuba of this western city.

The 27th edition of the FIL, planned in Matanzas from March 5th to 10th, has as the guest country China and is dedicated to Eusebio Leal, Historian of Havana and National Social Sciences Award, and to the 325th anniversary of the Matanzas village, which is commemorated in October.


This literacy party will be held mainly in the historic center of this city, with a wide cultural movement since the 19th century and 100 kilometers east of Havana.


A remarkable moment of the meeting will be on March 8th with a special program dedicated to International Women's Day, which will include a tribute to Haydee Santamaria, first director of the House of the Americas by the American writer Margaret Randall.


Also that day will be presented the poetry book About the Little Charlie Lindbergh by Randall, will be inaugurated a sample of drawings and art books by the American painter Barbara Byers, there will be a sale of books written by women and about women, and there will be poetry reading by poetesses from Matanzas.


Another day of interest will be the well known as ´Pasar revista.´ Forty years of Matanzas magazine, with the presentation of publications of the Tablas Alarcos, SIC and Vigia magazine by their respective editors Omar Valiño, Aida Barh and Laura Ruiz.


The venues of the FIL-2018 include the La Aurora gallery, the Digdora Alonso House of Letters, the Palacio de Junco museum and the Aldabon and Figia publishing houses.


The program of the Fair will include in Matanzas meetings with writers, exhibitions, talks, book launches, troubadour performances, literary downloads and poetic gatherings.
