Dance Contests and Composition to Liven up Danzon Forum in Cuba
Dance competition and composition contest will mark the 2nd International Danzon Dancers Meeting â€˜Miguel Failde in Memoriam'', convened by the provincial directorate of Culture in Matanzas, from March 30th to April 2nd.
Keynote speeches, concerts, exchanges of directors of typical orchestras, and dance workshops, will be held in the context of this event, a communication from the institution said today.
The call included a theoretical forum with the following issues: 'Danzon, an anthology of a genre'; 'Danzon in the context of the popular contemporary music', and 'Impact of the genre, studies of consumption'.
'Milestones in the promotion of danzon and its variants'; 'Composers and performers of the genre'; 'Presence of Danzon and its variants in Latin America', and 'From danzon to mambo, elements of renewal and continuity', are also included on the list.
The meeting includes the presence of musicologists, interpreters and researchers, whose works, due to their quality and production, can foster the universal heritage of danzon, the source said.
'Las Alturas de Simpson', written by Failde (1852-1921), was the first work of this rhythm released to the public on January 1st, 1879 and premiered at the ancient Artistic and Literary Lyceum, current Joseph White concert hall in this city.
